November 13, 2009 Van Buren, Ark. – Summit Medical Center presented awards to team members for excellent performance during the second and third quarters of 2009.  In all six employees were recognized during a ceremony at the hospital November 12.

The award9986 for employee of the quarter for April through June went to Velta Rea in data processing. Rea has served the hospital for 24 years in the IT Department.  She has taken on project after project without a complaint.  Rea is described as being always cheerful and providing top-notch customer service.

Melissa Anderson, patient-care technician, was awarded employee of the quarter for July through September.  Anderson has worked at Summit Medical Center for just over a year but in that short time has made a major impact.  Anderson always goes out of her way to make sure patients and family members receive excellent care.

The nurse of the quarter for April through June was awarded to Renda Brown, LPN.  Brown currently works in the Cornerstone Clinic supporting Dr. Wendell Ross.  Brown shoulders a heavy case load without complaining and is described as a stabilizing force by her co-workers.

For July through September, the nurse of the quarter award went to Vada Patterson, LPN. Vada works at night and is always willing to accept the extra responsibilities that fall on night employees readily and without complaint.  Her supervisors have noticed her additional efforts and appreciate her.

The manager of the quarter for April through June was awarded to Stacy Caldarera, Public Relations and Marketing Director.  She has worked at the hospital for a year and a half and has become well known in the community.  Caldarera is described as always being willing to work nights and weekends doing health fairs, manning information booths at the county fair, and working job fairs.  She has also taken on extra duties including physician recruiting for the hospital.

For July through September, the manager of the quarter award went to Mark Shadwick, IT Director.  Shadwick has been taking care of the computers at the hospital for almost 10 years. Through those years there has been a lot of change in technology and this year was no exception.  While installing a new program called Safe Scan in the hospital, Shadwick showed exceptional leadership skills and impressed the representatives from the software company.

November 9, 2009, Van Buren, Ark. – Summit Medical Center gets in harmony with the Van Buren Fine Art Center by donating $1,500 to support this season’s lineup3849.
“Musical and Vocal performances like those brought in by the fine arts center contribute to quality of place and community and Summit Medical Center is proud to help sponsor the arts in Van Buren and Crawford County” said Summit Medical Center PR & Marketing Director, Stacy Caldarera.   The season’s line-up includes a performance of Alice in Wonderland, November 14.

The $1,000 donation helps the center bring world-class performers to our community. Summit Medical Center is a fully accredited, 103-bed acute care hospital providing Emergency Services, Critical Care, Outpatient Testing, Inpatient Surgical Services, Same Day Surgery, Rehabilitation Services and Respiratory Therapy.

• Group 2: obtaining/accessing information of people not needed to do your job (this includes your own information), sharing passwords with coworkers.  First offense: written warning or
suspension.  Second offense within 2 years: termination.
• Group 3: using coworkers password without their knowledge, disclosing PHI you accessed without authorization and were not involved in that patients care, release PHI for personal gain or intent to harm an individual or SMC/HMA, accessing that patients care, taking pictures of any body image, body part or x-ray with personal cell phones.  First offense. termination.
