Letter from the CEO

Team,

The heat of summer is upon us!  As everyone who has worked in healthcare in Florida knows, this means a decrease in volume.  We see it every year, so it comes as no surprise to the veterans in the group.

One thing that I do want to remind everyone of, though, is that just because the number of patients decreases, we still need to be focused on the three main points of our mission:

Service – We need to ensure that we’re delivering top-notch customer service all the time.  From smiling at everyone, to remembering the 10-5 rule (make eye contact at 10 feet, and greet with “Good morning/afternoon/evening” at 5 feet), we need to ensure that we keep service in the forefront of our minds.  And it’s not just about delivering it to patients – our doctors and our peers are just as important.  Good service is what makes people come back to a hospital.  No matter what someone needs – we have the time.

Compassion – No patient ever comes to the hospital because he or she is having a good day.  They are usually at a low point for the year, and some of them for their lives.  It is important for us to recognize that, and be able to show empathy.  The same goes for our peers and physicians, who also have to deal with the same challenges each of us does.

Commitment – There are so many things that try to alter the course each of us is on.  If these distractions go unchecked, we can never reach our true goals.  In a noble profession like healthcare, we can never be allowed to stray from our true mission.  It takes real commitment to achieve good care – commitment to continue to learn, commitment to your teammates, commitment to the community, and commitment to your patients.  With lasting commitment, we can only be successful.

I know that, as the summer months go on, we will have plenty of opportunities to show our deep understanding of this mission and how we live it every day.

Chris
