PEOPLE I Cancer research study manned by LKMC volunteers

A group of dedicated Associates from Lower Keys Medical Center helped to fight back cancer through research! At this year's Relay For Life of the Lower Keys on May 20th the American Cancer Society was looking for Keys residents who wanted to participate in a landmark cancer research study. The LKMC team led and chaired by Randy Detrick, PR/Marketing Manager at LKMC enrolled 108 men and women ages 30 to 65 who have never been diagnosed with cancer. Those that enrolled filled out a baseline survey, had their waist measured and gave a small sample of blood. They will be followed up with another survey every 2 years for 20 years. The long-term Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3) will help researchers better identify the lifestyle, environmental and genetic factors that cause or prevent cancer. It is the largest cancer research study in the world and its goal is to enroll 300,000 individuals. Full Story
